GoodGuide App Reviews

Hey! We are in Canada!

I just heard about this on a Canadian radio show and thought it was a great idea. Installed it and tried it out on a dozen or so products around my house including childrens toys. It finds nothing? Does this not work on products in Canada? Why were you even on cbcs Recivilization then?

A very good start

Also heard about this on CBC and gave it a try. Many items I scanned arent included yet but some are. Searching through the categories is helpful. Im sure the list will continue to expand. Get it.

Needs Bigger Database

Love the interface but needs to add a lot of products to database.

Such a great idea I wish this worked. Nothing registers when I scan.

Not pleased

Cant scan anything its all black. Go to question mark for info, same thing, am I missing something here?

In development

I agree with other reviews. This is a great idea - but the app lacks functionality at this point. Very few products scanned show information... and crowd sourcing is apparently not a concept yet embraced by the developers. Fairly un-useful in its present form, but I will watch for developments.

Power of Information

Keep up the good work! This app helps in understanding where our products come from and the environmental and social impacts of their production - everyone should have this app!

Cool idea but totally useless

Maybe this works in the States, but I havent found one product yet that it recognizes. The scanner doesnt work properly - sometimes it doesnt scan at all, other times it scans so quickly that it misses the bar code all together. Too bad; I would use this if it worked!

Lovely fail.

Awesome idea! Just doesnt work. At all. And I mean it. Crashes after each scan... Too bad.

Boo. !

Cant get it to work. Everything I scan is no in the database. Boo. Liked the idea. Delete!

Doesnt work

Fix the app!

Not bad but needs work...

I was surprised to see that 1) several anti-bacterial products made the list of best products to buy and 2) that Triclosan was not listed as a potentially harmful ingredient in them when its feared that anti-bacterial products create supergerms and the Canadian government just released a health warning on products containing Triclosan, the active ingredient in most anti-bacterial products. Technically, everything works fine except for the fact that it wont allow me to create an account (it says the e-mail addresses Ive tried to use already have accounts linked to them which is not so). But thank you, this app has potential.

New vsn doesnt work

The old version was pretty good, although poor coverage of products in Canada as noted by others. But I foolishly upgraded. The new version has never worked for me. The scanner window is empty, the Done button does nothing and sometimes the whole app just dies. I check back here periodically hoping theyve fixed it, as I really believe in the concept. Is there any way to downgrade an app?

Doesnt work.

I realize it states it only works for items available in the US, but I doubt the products by Coca Cola and other large corporations alter their barcodes between countries. Either way, whats the point of releasing this app in the Canadian iTunes store if it cant be used. Delete.

Make it available in Canada.

We all have iPhones and want to eat healthy. Dr.Oz and Roizen have a healthy tips column in our daily Canadian newspaper and suggested this App. If its not available here than dont write about it in our newspapers. Adjust the article for for those of is across the border.

Puzzling

This thing confuses me. Checked "behind the ratings" on some products and the behind scores didnt make bear any relation to the overall score. Found one product with a host of certifications that relate to high safety standards, environmental awareness, etc. yet the social score was low. Nice idea, needs much work.

Great idea.

The app isnt ready to be charging for subscriptions yet. At least not in Canada. I would also like to see the rating content be turns over to the public to avoid the risk of bias. The idea is fantastic though! I would change the rating if there where more content and more ethical information.

Doesnt work in Canada

Good idea. Not ready for release in Canada

Canadian content

I was so excited to have this app for my phone, but like everyone here has said, theres little use for Canadian consumers. Products are either simply not available, or they read as the wrong product. Too bad!

Helping me buy better!

I have been a happy user of this app/website and consult it for almost all of my purchases! Its surprising (and sometimes appalling) the kind of standards certain companies have in making their products. If you care about being green, being animal conscious and care to avoid harsh chemicals then download this app!
